Modern Shinai swords are constructed in a tubular form of four highly polished and equally weighted slats of bamboo. These slats are held together by a guard called a Tsuba. These swords are used for practice so that practitioners arent seriously injured. These shinai swords are constructed of thick sheaves of bamboo and include a thick plastic guard and securing ring.
