The Vendel helmet is characterized by prominent and reinforced eye holes with a nose guard as well. The plate armor in the head piece typically does not continue below the nose. The Slash Guard 16G Vendel Helmet is forged 16G steel with chainmail fitted to the base of the head piece for added protection. Chainmail typically protects from slashing attacks and is rather weak to thrust attacks. It would have been chosen to finish the base of this kind of helmet to allow for maximum ventilation. The Slash Guard Medieval Vendel Helmet features a leather liner which can be laced as well as an adjustable chin strap which allows most reenactors a perfect fit.
