Head of State and Head of the Conan Barbarian Fan Club

Long after the movie and the comics first hit stands, there are still hordes of fans of Conan the Barbarian. One of those fans is, in fact, our President Barack Obama. The Daily Caller takes a look at this in a recent article titled “Obama: I Was Pretty Into Conan The Barbarian.”

Patrick Howley of the Daily Caller writes, “President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he was pretty into comic books in the past. ‘I grew up loving comic books. Back in the day, I was pretty into Conan the Barbarian and Spiderman,’ Obama said in a recruiting email for Organizing for Action, his progressive nonprofit advocacy group. ‘Anyone who reads comics can tell you, every main character has an origin story — the fateful and usually unexpected sequence of events that made them who they are. The same goes for grassroots organizers,’ Obama said.”

For Conan the Barbarian fans like our President, Movie Maniac recently released a list to generate plenty of nostalgia. Rod Pocowatchit of Movie Maniac covers this in a list titled “10 things you may not have known about ‘Conan the Barbarian’ (VIDEO).” Pocowatchit writes, “The film’s opening epigraph by Friedrich Nietzsche isn’t exactly correct: ‘That which does not kill us makes us stronger.’ It’s a loose translation of ‘Was mich nicht umbringt, macht mich starker,’ which translates into ‘That which does not kill me, makes me stronger.’ Tomato, tomahto… ‘Conan’ is co-written by Oliver Stone. Yes, that Oliver Stone, Oscar-winning screenwriter and director most known for ‘Platoon,’ ‘Born on the Fourth of July,’ ‘JFK’ and others… Director John Milius says on the DVD’s commentary track that there were originally supposed to be three Conan movies, each with different themes involving swords. Only one sequel, ‘Conan the Destroyer,’ saw the light of day, in 1984. There could still be time for another one, though. After all, Arnie is returning in yet another ‘Terminator’ movie.” For the rest of the list, read the full article.

Fans of Conan the Barbarian can enhance their enjoyment of the film with a Conan Barbarian Antiquated Sword from Armory Replicas. It includes a black end cap and Wooden Wall Mount Plaque. The sword's blade, manufactured from 440 stainless steel, is finished with a very even and attractive antiquated satin finish.
