Many around the United States have taken measures to prepare for a possible zombie-related catastrophe. One state, Kansas, is altogether ahead of the curve.

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has signed a proclamation declaring October Kansas’ “Zombie Preparedness Month.” Before you scream in horror, “I knew it, they’re coming!” consider that there is some precedent for this step! The United States’ CDC recently devised a zombie preparedness guide, reasoning that any civilian who was well prepared for a zombie apocalypse would surely be prepared for other potential disasters as well!

The Kansas government acknowledged that many zombie preppers take wise steps toward preparedness for a wide variety of emergencies. Gathering bottled water, nonperishable foods, and batteries are all helpful crisis aversion measures, as is buying a backup or portable generator.

The governor’s office views the Zombie Preparedness Month as a fun way to get Kansans thinking about disaster prevention. “We came up with the idea of Zombie Preparedness Month because it is an engaging way to get people on board with emergency preparedness,” the office’s statement said. “If you’re equipped to handle the zombie apocalypse then you’re prepared for tornadoes, severe storms, fire, and any other natural disaster Kansas usually faces.”

“If you’re prepared for zombies, you’re prepared for anything,” the statement concluded.

Indeed, Kansas is smack in the middle of the United States’ Tornado Alley, so its residents could do worse than to take drastic measures to ward off all sorts of crises!
