Metal Gear Solid fans have had their fair share of news in recent weeks. First off, is the video game’s director Hideo Kojima leaving? The International Business Times takes a look at this in a recent article titled “Konami Makes Another Statement About The Status Of ‘Metal Gear Solid V’ Director Hideo Kojima.”

According to Nicolo Parungo of the International Business Times, “The hints of Hideo Kojima leaving Konami have been making the rounds lately. After plenty of rumours and speculation about the ‘Metal Gear’ creator’s status, Konami has finally answered some of these questions, though their answers may have lead to even more questions from the public about what’s going on between Kojima and the game company. Konami has been making statements about Kojima through the Japanese ‘Metal Gear’ Twitter. One situation addressed right away was the dissolution of the Kojima Productions brand, to the point that the upcoming ‘Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’ isn’t being called a Hideo Kojima game anymore. The company merely stated that Kojima Productions, along with other internal companies have been changed to move into the corporate headquarters work structure. ‘The name and organization has changed, but as before, MGSV: TPP is continuing as a work from director Kojima and the existing team members.’ Stated by the Metal Gear Twitter and translated by Kotaku.”

With that cleared up, fans of the video game can start envisioning the Metal Gear Solid movie. Angie Han of Slash Film gives an update on the film in a recent article titled “‘Metal Gear Solid’ Movie Moves Forward With New Screenwriter.” Han writes, “A Metal Gear Solid movie has been in on-again, off-again development for most of the past decade. Currently it’s in ‘on’ mode, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kings of Summer) attached to direct for Sony Pictures, and now it’s even making some forward progress. Jay Basu has just been set to write the script, based on the Konami video game series created by Hideo Kojima. Learn more about the Metal Gear Solid screenwriter after the jump… We’ve been tracking the progress of the Metal Gear Solid movie since it was first announced around 2007. After an initial flurry of interest, development stalled out around 2010. Arad started to get it back on track around 2012, and last year the project took a big step forward as Vogt-Roberts entered talks to direct.”
