New Illustration Series Shows X-Men and Their Lives Outside of Fighting

Have you ever wondered what superheroes do when they’re not fighting crime? Specifically, have you ever wondered what the X-Men do in their downtime? Chris Arrant of Comic Book Resources looks to provide an answer in a recent article titled “‘Everyday X-Men’ reveals Marvel’s mutants in their off-hours.”
Arrant writes, “Being an X-Men is a busy job. Between the fighting, the schooling and the baseball games, there’s not much time for anything else — or is there? Vreeland cartoonist Chad Sells has begun depicting Marvel’s mutants during their off-time in a new series of illustrations dubbed ‘Everyday X-Men.’ The 16 images so far show various X-Men (and even a few enemies) in their leisure pursuits … and interestingly enough, many of them are in their ’90s-era duds, if they’re wearing anything at all.”
Joshua Yehl of IGN sits down with the creator in a recent article titled “HILARIOUS 'EVERYDAY X-MEN' SHOWS MUTANTS IN THEIR OFF-TIME.” Chad Sell tells Yehl, “Ever since I was a kid, I've been obsessed with comics -- reading them, writing them, drawing them. The X-Men have always been some of my favorites, especially the 90's Jim Lee era that I was first introduced to. So I wanted to try and draw some of those iconic and nostalgic characters, but without relying on just hyper-sexualizing the characters or putting them in exaggerated, contorted action poses. I was sketching out some ideas, and I thought, ‘Well, what if Psylocke is just on the phone? What if Jean is floating there eating popcorn?’ I liked the idea of depicting the characters in their beloved (and also kind of ridiculous) superhero outfits, but placing them in a mundane or silly context.”
