The Scream Mask Remains Timeless
3rd May 2015
Scream was one of the most iconic horror movies of the 90s. Everyone remembers the Ghost Face Killer mask from the movie and the line “Do you like scary movies?” Recently, Hit Flix released a list of the 18 most terrifying movie openings. Chris Eggertsen of Hit Flix covers this in an article titled “The 18 Scariest Horror Movie Opening Scenes, Ranked.”
Scream comes in at number 17 on the list. When it comes to Scream, Eggertsen writes, “I've gotta be honest: the "Scream" movies never really scared me. The Ghostface mask is too silly to be truly frightening, and the self-aware tone keeps us from ever being frightened on a deeper level. The opening scene of the original film is justly iconic and certainly as scary as the franchise ever got, but in the scheme of horror movie opening sequences it's actually pretty mild.”
Of course, like most movies that were huge in the 90s, Scream makes us wonder what the actors and actresses from the movie are doing now. Life & Style attempts to answer this question in a recent article titled “The Cast of 'Scream' — Where Are They Now?” According toStefanie Favicchio of Life & Style, Matthew Lillard, who played Stuart, went on to do more movies and other roles. Specifically, Favicchio writes, “The actor has provided his voice for Shaggy Rogers in a TON of 'Scooby Doo' videos and will star in the upcoming TV movie 'Problem Child,' based on the hilarious 90s comedy starring John Ritter.” Meanwhile Courteney Cox continued to expand her career and brand. In terms of Cox, who played Gale Weathers in the movie, Favicchio writes, “After famously starring as Monica in the hit show 'Friends,' the 50-year-old landed her own show, 'Cougar Town,' which has been on the air for six seasons. She married 'Scream' costar David Arquette, welcomed daughter Coco, and later divorced. She's currently engaged to music producer Johnny McDaid.”
